Window Colours & Finishes

Learn about UPVC & aluminium colours.

Low-maintenance UPVC finishes.
Vibrant aluminium colours.
Realistic timber effects.

On being made widely available in the UK, white was about the colour option for UPVC window frames. Things have evolved, with a huge growth in available UPVC shades and finishes, including the possibility of dual-coloured frames. Coloured UPVC windows simplify matching designs to existing home architecture and come with the benefits of minimal upkeep, resilience and thermal efficiency. Opposing finishes on each side of the frame ensures internal and external aesthetics are complemented.

White UPVC Windows

TWC employs an 11-stage powder-coating process when applying finishes to aluminium frames, removing any likelihood of corrosion or rotting. They’re also executed in a way that prevents finishes becoming scratched, faded or chipped. Experience has told us that a powder-coating technique is the best strategy to enable a finish to resist the elements. No damaging fumes are induced as we undertake this process either, aiding the planet.

Aluminium Windows

Anyone fond of a traditional timber window aesthetic can mirror its look by choosing a woodgrain finish for UPVC windows. Providing a near-identical effect and texture, the upside of a woodgrain is that it doesn’t suffer from the flaws of authentic wood. It won’t warp, rot or fade, retaining a believable wood-like appearance without the need for repainting or any such preservation.

For ultimate colour flexibility, request dual-coloured windows so that you can have contrasting finishes inside and out. Choose a colour pairing suited to your outdoor façade and internal décor to help new windows align with existing architecture. A dual-colour approach will succeed in establishing a cohesive outlook all around the property so that designs don’t look out of place.

Envisage Flush French Windows

Extreme UPVC window colours...

We don’t foresee a time when demand for a classic white finish diminishes, but there’s no doubt that its popularity is being increasingly challenged by competing finishes. Increasing numbers of customers are veering towards colours like Grey, Irish Oak and Chartwell Green, to name just three. If you find it hard narrowing the colours down to just one, tell TWC that you want dual-colour windows.

Common questions about window colours

Colour ranks as one of the biggest decisions you face when organising new window replacements. Our common questions are designed to provide invaluable information about window colours to help you find the right finish.

They don’t necessarily have to be a perfect match, but they should complement each other in some way. Often, we find that neutral frames along with a contrasting accent door work nicely together and offer a nicely mixed balance of colour.

Absolutely! You don’t have to settle on a single finish and can nominate different colours for the inner and outer frames if that creates the best result. A bold finish on the outside can be complemented with a muted internal tone, or vice-versa.

You’ll be unsurprised to know that white is the resounding favourite. But our various grey shades are very well-liked, particularly anthracite grey, and there’s much call for TWC’s accurate woodgrains. With a woodgrain comes a warm and comforting effect.

There may be some colours that don’t have far-reaching appeal, but the majority of white, black, grey, cream etc., will meet the taste of others. You’re always best off selecting a shade that goes hand-in-hand with your home and doesn’t put off buyers.

A smooth finish is for those who want something clean, simple and contemporary. Woodgrains are formulated to imitate timber both from a touch and visual standpoint and commonly chosen to maintain the traditional aesthetic of cottages and period homes.

That’s unlikely to ever happen, it’s just that colour options are much broader nowadays, providing window buyers with more choice. White windows befit almost every property and homes of all ages, so they’re always a safe selection.

Modern architecture is typically finished in sleek offerings like grey and black. Either shade helps to emphasise bold geometric lines and frame views, and when paired with white render, modern timber cladding or stone, they really have prominence.

Maintenance requirements for coloured UPVC and aluminium windows are extremely low. Their frames only require a wipe down twice a year using warm soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth. Always avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive scouring pads.
