TWC’S Energy Efficiency Guide

TWC’S Energy Efficiency Guide

Liz Truss has addressed the energy crisis felt by UK homeowners by announcing a plan to cap the price of energy to £2,500 per year for typical households.

According to Which?, this announcement will save those who use a ‘medium’ amount of energy an average of £1,000. This is when comparing the new cap to the previous expectation of continually rising prices. Ofgem’s price cap had reached an unheard of number at £3,549 just two weeks before the measures were announced.

While the new price cap will alleviate the stress of ever-increasing energy prices, UK homeowners will still be expected to pay outrageous energy bills. Under the new measures, Which? states that the average unit rates (for direct debit customers) will be 10.3p per kWh for gas with an average standing charge of 28p per day and 34p per kWh for electricity with an average standing charge of 46p per day.

As the weather changes, and we see winter on the horizon, TWC has three tips to help you save energy and money by minimising your energy usage.

Spend less time in the shower

One of the easiest ways to lower your energy bills is to simply shave a few minutes off of your showers. As little as 2 minutes per day can make a significant difference in your yearly costs.

We recommend setting a timer to between 5 and 10 minutes which is the recommended amount of shower time for our skin.

Utilise an outdoor line to dry your washing

This year has been one of the driest years in memory, so why not take advantage! Using an outdoor line to dry your clothes as opposed to a tumble dryer will certainly make a noticeable difference to your energy usage.

Utilising a washing line is even a better way to dry your clothes than placing wet clothes on your radiators as this will make your radiators use more energy to heat your home and may create condensation on your windows.
