Get More Space: Patio Doors Will Forge A Connection Between Your Home & Garden

How harmousiously does your home blend with your garden? With summer just around the corner, it’s worth uniting your indoor and outdoor areas.

By neglecting the connection between your home and garden, you are missing out on unlocking the full potential of your property.

Instead of treating your indoor and outdoor spaces as separate entities, patio doors offer a means to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living. This integration not only grants you with additional purposeful space, but will create a modern open-plan ambiance.

The characteristics that define a patio door

Providing access to gardens, outdoor terraces and patios, a patio door is made up of large glazed panels. By default, they consist of two panels, but at TWC, our patio doors can be fitted with three or four.

In contrast to hinged doors, patio doors slide open from side to side on runners, without inward or outward opening sashes. This means that furniture can be placed in front of patio doors, helping you to make the most of every corner in the room.

The high proportion of glazing will form an airy environment while giving the illusion of spaciousness, due to increased natural light. Patio doors are also ideal for ventilation purposes.

Open patio doors

How does it vary from a French door?

French doors’ hinged opening is in stark contrast to patio doors’ slide opening. Moreover, patio doors typically have a higher ratio of glass to framework.

Aluminium patio doors demonstrate the high proportion of glazing best, with their impressively slender frames and wide glass panes, providing you with an unrestricted view of the garden.

Even when the doors are shut, your home will have a more expansive, open-plan feel to it.

You can style your patio doors with curtains or blinds

If you would like some additional privacy, dressing up your patio doors with curtains or blinds will do the trick. They are also a way of adding personality to your space.

For convenience, you may decide to use roller blinds as they can be easily rolled out of the way of the glazing during the day. Alternatively, lightweight, thin material curtains will provide a stunning layered look.

We recommend your chosen treatment is measured to the length and width of your patio doors, to prevent any issues with the door function. If you choose curtains, they shouldn’t drape on the floor and become a trip hazard.

Closed blinds

TWC’s patio doors can be selected in either UPVC and aluminium, finished in a number of on-trend colour options. You can see both material versions in our state-of-the-art showrooms.
