Does Your Home Provide A Sufficient Standard Of Energy Efficiency?

Do You Have An Energy Efficient Home - Header

As much as we’d love the summer weather to last forever, we have to face reality and come to terms with the fact that temperatures will soon be cooling down.

It will mean more time indoors than outdoors, so you need your home to provide a comforting atmosphere, but that’s only possible if it has a high energy efficiency rating.

A look at your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) will tell how energy efficient your home currently is – it will be rated from A (very efficient) to G (very inefficient).

If there is no EPC for the property, we’d highly recommend you get one organised as you will need it if you ever want to sell or rent out your home. Find an accredited Domestic Energy Assessor here to come and carry out an energy audit so that an EPC can be prepared.

If its energy efficiency rating needs improving, all it takes to enhance it is a few green measures:

Double or triple glazed windows and doors

Many houses lose a lot of heat because of inefficient windows and doors – leaky windows and doors can account for 25% of overall heat loss.

You won’t lose anywhere close to that amount of heat when you have double or triple glazed windows and doors installed. For a replacement window that’s A+ energy rated as standard and endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust, look no further than our UPVC Extreme windows which can also be provided Secured by Design. Our replacement double and triple glazed doors are no less impressive.

After their installation, you could make an annual energy cost saving of £170.

Eco-friendly boiler

Your boiler is the most part of your central heating system. Buying a new one isn’t cheap, but an A-rated boiler can save you £340 a year, according to the Energy Saving Trust.

When boiler shopping, look to see what the ErP (Energy related Products Directive) rating of each model is as that tells you how efficiently it runs – most have an ‘A’ rating.

A new boiler is also far less likely to break down than an ageing boiler, just remember to have it regularly serviced.

Loft insulation

Where does heat escape the most in an uninsulated home? Through the roof! But not so much if you have loft insulation fitted in your loft, attic or roof space.

It’s available at a bargain price (for as little as £150) and good loft insulation can work effectively for 40 years or more.

If you don’t have the ability to fit loft insulation, you’re best off getting an approved insulation installer on the case. Your nearest installation can be found on the National Insulation Association website.

UPVC Extreme windows are included in our Summer Sale, so they can be bought at a fantastically low price. Ask for a FREE no obligation quote for them from TWC.
